A Message from the Health Office

Some reminders as the cold and flu season are upon us. Students should not be sent to school with a fever and need to be fever free 24 hours without the use of medications. They also need to be 24 hours free of vomiting and diarrhea before returning to school. Coughs that are persistent and interfere with their ability to carry on a discussion or participate in class should remain home. If your child displays a rash that you are unsure of, please have it checked by a family physician before sending them to school.  Children may return to school if the rash has been diagnosed as non-contagious.

With the winter season coming please remind your child to not share hats and other clothing items with other students. This will help against the spread of head lice

Due to the wide variety of germs and health related complaints at the elementary age, teachers and school staff always try to prioritize health and safety.  When possible we like to keep students in school.  Since many complaints (headaches, tiredness, stomach aches, etc) can be resolved by drinking water or using the restroom, students may not be instantly sent to the health office.  This helps us to limit the exposure of those students that are experiencing more contagious conditions.

These guidelines are taken from the MN Department of Health and will be followed. We appreciate your help in keeping our students and staff safe and healthy! Start practicing good hand hygiene now, getting plenty of sleep, and eating a balanced diet. These things can help students stay well during the months ahead.

Thanks!
