Minnesota Safe Routes To School Information

What is it?

Minnesota Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a statewide effort to make it safe, convenient, and fun for all youth to walk, bike, and roll to school and in daily life. Walking or biking to, from, and during school is an easy way for students to get exercise, stay healthy, and arrive at school ready to learn.

Creating a plan

The Saint Cloud Area Planning Organization has been awarded planning assistance from the Minnesota Department of Transportation to create a SRTS Plan for Pleasantview Elementary, Mississippi Heights Elementary, and Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School. The plan will be developed throughout the 2023-2024 school year. Once complete, the plan will provide direction and recommendations for improving walking and biking students at these schools.

Get involved

Students and families from these three schools will be asked for their feedback this school year at in-person events, in classrooms, and using the online survey Link to SRTS page and online map.

  • Learn about the benefits of walking and biking
  • Provide input on how to improve walking and biking near the school
  • Participate in educational opportunities for students
  • Learn about programs that build skills and encourage walking and biking
  • Scroll to the bottom of the SRTS page to take the survey
